Can I use regex capture groups in the replacement?

Yes. Use $1, $2, etc., to reference capture groups from the find pattern (when Regex is on).

What does 'whole word' do?

It only matches when the find string isn't part of a larger word. So 'cat' matches 'cat' but not 'category'.
